Project 'D'
Here is my latest acquisition - as of May 2003 that is! It was purchased for a mere £100. Apparently it hasn't changed hands since about 1976 and was last run 18 or so years a go. I have some idea of what it should look like, but having never seen this particular model in the flesh I'm still relying on some dodgy sketches in the handbook and workshop manual.

As you can see, it's currently in boxes and bags laying in a dark corner of my workshop. This is going to be one hell of a challenge. My aim is to create a clean, tidy and standard looking bike that I can use regularly if I want to. I am not aiming to renovate it to show winning condition, but I would like it to look good.

The "sharper" among you (some would say "anoraks") have probably already picked up on a hint of 1970(ish) Triumph. The immediate reaction would be "Ah, it's a Bonneville". Close, not quite. This was my reaction but in fact it's only 500cc (rather than the Bonnie's 650cc). This makes it slightly less obvious because Triumph, in their wisdom, decided to make a lot of bikes around this engine. This is in fact a Triumph Daytona 500 (or was in a former life). Whether or not I have the patience to return this motorcycle to its original glory remains to be seen. I will however give it my best shot and keep you updated along the way. If you would like to help out, all letters of encouragement, cash, cheques and beer tokens to the usual address please!

In the mean time, here's a sketch I picked up somewhere in my travels on the web.
I will add more details and pictures as the project progresses.
