Garden Project 2003 This has got to be the single biggest project I have ever personally undertaken. I've been involved in bigger ones but this is the largest I've organised on my own. I'm pleased to say that it worked. At the beginning of the year we purchased the plot of land at the back of our garden. It is about 50 feet by 50 feet. It has on it an old stable block. We have taken down our original rear boundary fence and started to tidy up the stables to convert them in to a games room - more of that later. The primary objective of our Easter project was to tidy up the rear garden. As you can see from the first picture it was pretty tatty. I likened it to a neglected netball court. Nasty. Our first objective was to remove the tarmac. With the help of friends, family and a digger we did just that; the back garden ended up on the front drive. We then found under the tarmac was another thick layer of loose bitumen shale. That had to go as well, so we got the digger back along with a dumper. Our neighbour needed the shale for his drive so we swapped 30 tons of shale for 30 tons of sub soil. |

Once we had made the height difference back up with sub soil we then had to level this and lay about 20 tons of top soil. This had to be stamped down, watered and fed with compost. My Mum (Sylvia) and her fiance (Phil) were both very helpful. In fact Phil hung around for the next week and helped us lay the turf. |

Once the turf was down it was a case of adding lots of water and sunlight and just waiting. I'm pleased to report that none of it has died. It was a very physically demanding project but it was worth it. The garden is beginning to look just like a garden and less like a car park! |

The Barn Project This section will show an update on the garden and our progress on the 'Barn'. I have yet to process the pictures for this section but I will add them as soon as they are available. In the mean time, here's a couple taken with my phone. |
